A photo of the late Glory Enobong Ekpe, taken by her sister Ridvan Foxhall, with a poem inspired by Ridvan’s eulogy of Glory, and her spiritual as well as physical beauty. More universally, it celebrates the beauty that radiates from within.

Glory’s Dark Skin

The light that glows through darkest skin
Radiates from a world within.
The warmth behind pigmented face
Emanates from a core of inner grace.
The sparkles in the black pupil of the eye
Shine like stars in a midnight sky.
Ebony cheeks as luminous and bright
As the moon that gleams in darkest night.
A Nigerian smile flashes a ray
Of delight, like seeing the Milky Way,
And hair that like a halo swirls,
Rivals Andromeda’s galactic curls.
The glory I see in the darkest skin
Reveals a universe enfolded within.
